A witness in Montrevel (Isère) reported in September 2017 the observation of a luminous object described as a yellow-orange fireball falling silently. Although the object disappeared quickly, the account aligns with the description of a meteor observed by more than 25 people across several French and Swiss regions. This phenomenon, known as a bolide, was captured by cameras from the FRIPON network and is believed to have fragmented at the end of its trajectory. Although the time reported by the witness does not exactly match the event, it is thought that the perception of proximity was due to the object's intense brightness. Bolides typically occur between 50 and 100 kilometers in altitude and are visible over an area up to 200 kilometers in diameter.
