In January 1976, a witness in Valbonnais observed an elongated red object moving silently. The sighting, made using binoculars, was repeated two days later, on January 15th, at the same time. The French gendarmerie also recorded similar observations on the 17th and 18th, describing a trajectory from southwest to northwest. Although the descriptions match those of a satellite passing overhead, there is not enough data to confirm this hypothesis.
