In March 1976, a driver and his passengers in Thuir (France) observed a large luminous object with an oval shape and a dome on top. The object was moving from east to west and remained visible for about a minute before suddenly disappearing. Despite the detailed description, no other witnesses were found to corroborate the sighting. This case was classified as D1 by the GEIPAN, indicating that no conventional explanation could be determined for the phenomenon.
The Thuir case is one of many in the French archives that show how unidentified objects can be observed without leaving significant evidence. Although there were no additional testimonies or physical proof, the detailed description of the craft and its behavior caught the attention of researchers. The D1 classification reflects the uncertainty regarding the nature of the phenomenon, keeping it in the category of unresolved cases.
