On January 16, 1977, a driver and his passenger in Vaucouleurs observed an orange glowing sphere with a diameter of about 15 cm. The object was at an altitude of approximately 2000 meters and left no trail or noise. The sphere dimmed progressively three times before quickly reigniting. Eventually, the object disappeared suddenly. The observation was clear and detailed, though no conventional explanation was found. This case was classified by GEIPAN as category C, indicating a possible but unconfirmed explanation.
