🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In March 1978, a French driver observed a bright object with blinking lights in a field near Benneçourt. Upon arriving at the location, she saw a grey-blue metallic object shaped like an inverted bowl, completely still and silent. Although she initially left out of fear, she returned at noon with coworkers, who confirmed the presence of a circular mark on the ground. However, the next day, the gendarmerie found no unusual traces, only tractor marks. The lack of clear evidence and the non-spontaneous nature of the testimonies led the GEIPAN to classify the case as "inexplicable" due to insufficient information.
The GEIPAN reviewed the case with new methods and experience, but found no conclusive evidence of an aerial phenomenon. The visual description of the object could have been a misperception or a common vehicle seen at an unusual time. Additionally, the perception of the testimony might have intensified due to the presence of colleagues and rumors. The C classification reflects that the case cannot be resolved with the available resources of the GEIPAN.
