Gujan-Mestras 1978, Luminous object and electrical failures

Summary

On June 19, 1978, between 23:00 and 00:45, several witnesses in Gujan-Mestras (Gironde) heard a loud, deep noise followed by the appearance of a luminous, oval-shaped, orange-colored object in the sky. While it remained visible, electrical failures were recorded in the local lighting system. The object gradually ascended and disappeared. Meanwhile, drivers on the RN113 road also observed a slow-moving luminous phenomenon in a stormy sky. Although the gendarmerie and GEPAN investigated, they could not clearly link these two observations due to a lack of precise information. Witnesses are likely to have observed a meteorological phenomenon related to the threatening storm in the area.
