Summary

In October 1978, two witnesses in the Grand Est region of France observed an elongated object with colored lights. The first sighting occurred on October 13th around 8 p.m., and one of the witnesses reported a similar observation five days later, between 7 and 8 p.m. Despite these sightings, no abnormal phenomena were recorded at the satellite detection center in the area. There were also no unusual reports from the Barberey-Saint-Sulpice airfield. Ultimately, investigators concluded that the witnesses likely saw a conventional aircraft, although the possibility of an unexplained phenomenon was not ruled out.

The case was classified as "B" by the GEIPAN, meaning a conventional explanation cannot be ruled out, but neither can the possibility of an unknown phenomenon. Despite the lack of additional witnesses, the available data does not allow for a definitive conclusion about the nature of the object. Cases like this, with isolated sightings and no supporting evidence, are common in the database of unidentified aerial phenomena.
