Summary

In October 1978, two young campers in Lormes (Nièvre) experienced a strange event during the night. At around 2:30 AM, they heard a whistle and observed a red glow from inside their tent for about 15 to 20 seconds, accompanied by a feeling of warmth in the ground. An hour later, they heard another whistle, but this time they didn't look outside. At dawn, they found a scorched area on the ground and thought it might have been caused by a landed object. The gendarmerie found no other witnesses, but one person mentioned burning branches and underbrush in the same spot a year earlier. There were also two other similar spots aligned with a hedge. The girls had tried to make a fire with damp twigs and toilet paper, which didn't ignite well. It's likely that the wind caused the paper and grass to catch fire suddenly, producing a brief glow and a sensation of heat. The fire was located between the tent and the supposed landing spot.
