Summary

Two witnesses in Sarthe observed a circular red luminous phenomenon on November 21, 1978. The object appeared shortly after 6:15 AM and slowly rose from the horizon. According to the report, the object moved slowly and then decreased in size. The gendarmerie arrived at the location at 8:00 AM but found no physical evidence. Initially thought to be Venus, the GEIPAN did not confirm this explanation until 2013. The doubt arose from the exact observation time, as Venus did not rise until 6:29 AM.

This case was re-examined using new tools and experience, leading to a re-evaluation of the classification. Although it remained classified as type A (unexplained), the later analysis confirmed it was an astronomical observation.
