On January 3, 1979, two people in Saverne (France) observed a bright object at low altitude, shaped like a half-sphere and accompanied by sparks. It moved silently towards the southeast and disappeared to the south. Although it is suggested it could have been Venus, particularly visible at that time, other explanations are not ruled out. Later, around 7 p.m., a driver saw a luminous ball for 3 to 4 seconds at great height, moving in a north-south direction. It is thought to have been a weather balloon, but the lack of concrete data keeps the mystery around this second sighting.
