🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On March 18, 1979 at 9:45 PM, a witness in the French region of Savoie observed a luminous phenomenon from his courtyard. For five seconds, he saw two orange spheres, each about the size of a 15 cm ball, appear and disappear within clouds. The spheres were about 50 cm apart and moved at high speed from west to southeast, without making any noise. Despite efforts by the gendarmerie to find additional witnesses, no other testimonies were collected. The GEIPAN classified the case as "C", indicating no conventional explanation was found.
The description of the phenomenon is clear and detailed, but the lack of other witnesses or physical evidence limited further investigation. Isolated sightings like this are common in the database of unidentified aerial phenomena. Although conventional natural or technological explanations were not ruled out, the Motte-Servolex case remains an unsolved mystery.
