In July 1979, several residents of La Garenne-Colombes were startled by sharp, short noises between 9:30 PM and midnight. These sounds, which occurred over two consecutive nights, caused concern and curiosity. People reported seeing unusual lights in the sky, fueling rumors of unexplained phenomena. The gendarmerie investigation revealed that the sounds came from unauthorized whistling rockets launched for fun from a nearby house garden. Although there was no evidence of extraterrestrial presence, the incident illustrates how everyday events can generate mystery and speculation.
The case was classified as "A" by the GEIPAN, indicating that a conventional explanation was not dismissed. Despite the apparent simple resolution, the incident remains remembered for its impact on the local community and for the way the testimonies coincided in time and place. This type of case, although not strictly related to unidentified flying objects, is valuable for understanding how human perception can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
