Several luminous phenomena occurred in Saint-Porchaire during March 1980. On the 3rd, a woman and her daughter saw a silent red sphere moving along the horizon; local police also glimpsed it before it slowly faded. The next day, other witnesses reported an object with blue flashes. In both instances, Venus was highly visible near the horizon, suggesting an astronomical confusion. A separate event took place on 7 March: a multicoloured sphere and a ground-level flash caused a power dip in the area. No noise or electrical sensation was felt, though one witness mentioned an arc between a power line and the ground—pointing to a natural phenomenon such as lightning or an atmospheric discharge.
