Le Chesnay, ascending white sphere with no explanation

Summary

At 22:45 on 5 April 1980, a witness in Le Chesnay saw a white luminous sphere rising in jumps and leaving a trail. After reaching a certain altitude it moved horizontally at high speed and disappeared. GEIPAN's investigation failed to identify the phenomenon: its behaviour matched neither aircraft nor any known natural occurrence. Classified as D.
