Metallic domed object over Huningue

Summary

On May 26, 1980, two walkers in Huningue observed an unusual object hovering at roughly 200–300 meters. One witness, a trained mechanic, described a metallic body with a round base topped by a silvery dome, gently oscillating on its axis. The darker underside intermittently emitted a reddish glow. No sound or condensation trail was detected during the six-minute sighting, after which the object vanished into the clouds in halting movements.

Bâle/Mulhouse airport recorded a radar echo during the period, but it could not be distinguished from regular air traffic. No additional witnesses came forward on either the French or German side. The phenomenon remains unexplained.
