In August 1980, two witnesses in Coulommiers watched a circular light with a very bright core travel from north to south before curving southwest. Along its path the color shifted from yellowish-white to red-violet. No sound was heard, and the light switched off abruptly. With no other witnesses, investigators considered a possible atmospheric entry but could not confirm this hypothesis.
