In the early hours of August 14, 1980, several witnesses in Buchy saw a flickering yellow light near the horizon moving very slowly before gradually fading. The Gendarmerie located additional witnesses, and analysis suggested the phenomenon could correspond to Mercury, which was particularly visible at that time of year. GEIPAN classified the case as B — an astronomical explanation considered probable, though not entirely confirmed.
