In the early hours of September 1, 1980, gendarmes on patrol in Meylan observed a yellow luminous sphere in the northeastern sky. The object moved slowly and showed changes in brightness. The sighting lasted over ninety minutes under ideal conditions: clear sky, excellent visibility, and no moon.
The witnesses themselves identified Venus as a reference point, visible at the time with a magnitude of -4.15. The circumstances and description led GEIPAN to classify the case as A, indicating the observation corresponds to Venus.
