At 11:15 PM on an October night in 1980, several witnesses in Saint-Symphorien-d'Ozon saw two bright headlights at about 200 meters altitude. As the lights turned left, they revealed a dark scallop shell-shaped object with two fixed red lights on its sides. The craft emitted a deep, mysterious sound.
Investigators suggested it could be an unidentified aerostat such as a dirigible. GEIPAN classified the case as B, acknowledging that the detailed, consistent witness descriptions and the object's shape and behaviour warrant attention, despite the absence of photographs or recordings.
