Between February and March 1981, several residents of Clamecy in Nièvre noticed a light that appeared every night at the same hour, drifted slowly southeast, and seemed to flicker. The regularity of the phenomenon sparked curiosity and unease. After analyzing the case, GEIPAN investigators concluded the witnesses had been observing a conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter — a notable astronomical event at that time of year that, seen with the naked eye, could easily be mistaken for an anomalous object.
