In the early hours of September 22, 1981, several witnesses — including gendarmes — observed colored lights at low altitude in La Chapelle-la-Reine. Heavy rain and a thunderstorm hampered any precise identification. A white light was traced to a nearby radio antenna, but a flashing red light and a steady green one remained unexplained. The lights moved rapidly and erratically without producing any sound. Notably, the main witness reported feeling a strong warm wind, a detail that could not be accounted for either.
