🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In January 1982 a driver in Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts reported a silent luminous phenomenon that seemed to follow her car and remain stationary whenever the vehicle stopped. Investigators suggested it could have been a star or planet low on the horizon whose apparent motion was misinterpreted, an effect amplified by the time of day, atmospheric conditions and viewing through a windshield.
The imprecise data collected makes any firm conclusion difficult. No exact coordinates or clear route directions were recorded. Other explanations such as a distant helicopter are possible but unverifiable. Originally classified D, GEIPAN reclassified the case as C due to insufficient information to determine the nature of the phenomenon.
