🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In January 1984, two witnesses driving on the A9 motorway near Nîmes reported an unidentified aerial phenomenon that appeared to follow them for about twenty kilometers. GEIPAN reviewed the case, originally classified as D, and separated two distinct phenomena. The first, seen by both witnesses, could not be matched to any known explanation, though a lack of reliable data prevented a firm conclusion. The second, noticed by only one witness, turned out to be the star Aldebaran — the vehicle's motion created an optical illusion of movement. This second phenomenon was reclassified as A.
