In September 1987, two witnesses in Arras saw a bright point, larger than a shooting star, cross the sky in a nearly straight line before vanishing abruptly. The sky was clear, allowing a good though very brief observation. The description—speed, rectilinear path, sudden disappearance—is consistent with an object entering the Earth's atmosphere.
