On the night of 1 October 1987, a driver and his son were travelling through the Ardèche countryside when they noticed mysterious lights appearing on three separate occasions during successive stops. The investigation resolved the puzzle conclusively: the lights belonged to a milk-collection tanker truck fitted with headlights and two forty-watt rear-mounted spotlights. GEIPAN classified the case as A—fully explained. It remains a good example of how everyday objects can look baffling under night-time visibility conditions.
