Summary

Between 4 and 18 October 1987, a witness in Gueutteville-les-Grès repeatedly observed a very bright point in the night sky. After a regional newspaper ran a story, other locals came forward to confirm the sighting. GEIPAN classified the case as B, noting that the phenomenon was most likely the planet Jupiter, which was especially bright at that time of year, with its satellites also visible. Despite the astronomical explanation, the convergence of multiple testimonies sparked local debate.
