In December 1988, a driver and passenger near Saint-Philbert-de-Grand-Lieu were startled when an intense light suddenly illuminated the landscape. After turning off their headlights, they made out a dark mass from which the light emanated and heard a faint hum. The light slowly faded westward, plunging the surroundings back into darkness. The testimony, though striking for those involved, lacks a precise date and has no additional witnesses. GEIPAN classified the case as C due to insufficient data and suggested possible explanations including an atmospheric entry behind clouds or visual fatigue effects.
