Summary

In January 1990, about a dozen children at a school in Mauriac (Cantal) watched a black oval or cylindrical object glide silently past at roughly 150 metres altitude. They described it as having legs and portholes. Teachers, alerted by the children, did not manage to see it. A month later, a weather balloon launched from Bordeaux was recovered in a nearby area. Reassembling the fragments confirmed it was the observed object: the supposed legs were the lower section of the balloon's radar reflector.
