Summary

In July 1990 a 14-metre crater appeared unexpectedly in a field in Caorches-Saint-Nicolas, Eure. Excavation revealed a ring of displaced earth, a central mound and 25 metal fragments. Analysis showed they were not meteoritic but the remains of a World War II incendiary bomb that had detonated underground. The mystery was solved by a historical find.
