Fireworks mistaken for hovering lights in Lassay-les-Châteaux

On 19 August 1990 a farmer in Lassay-les-Châteaux saw a red and then a green shape suspended in the air. Alarmed, he went back inside. A firework rocket had been launched in the area at the same date and time, which could explain the sighting. The following year gendarmes returned to the farm and reproduced the display with fireworks, but the witness did not recognise the lights as what he had seen — perhaps because he now knew what to expect. Despite this, investigators retained the firework explanation as the likely cause.
