Guérard 1992, luminous object reclassified as aircraft

Summary

In May 1992, two witnesses in Seine-et-Marne spotted a yellow luminous object in the sky. First seen as a bright point from a first-floor window, the object elongated, followed an ascending trajectory, then changed direction toward the northeast leaving a yellow trail. No sound accompanied the observation. The witnesses reported it to the gendarmerie, where a detailed procedure was filed. The first witness mentioned previous sightings.

Years later, GEIPAN reviewed the file and concluded it was probably an aircraft. The initial bright point would be consistent with landing lights, and the trail could have formed upon reaching a suitable atmospheric layer. The absence of sound is explained by distance and wind conditions. The case was reclassified as B.
