Summary

In June 1993 two witnesses in Jausiers, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, spotted a circular object five to six metres across with two tubes hanging in an inverted V. It flew horizontally at roughly 600 metres altitude, producing no sound or trail. After a sharp turn it climbed vertically; one witness tracked it with binoculars until it disappeared into a cirrus layer at an estimated 10,000 metres. Military manoeuvres were under way nearby, but the attending officer saw nothing, and the phenomenon did not appear linked to military activity. Enquiries with model-aircraft clubs yielded no leads. The object was never identified.
