On January 28, 1994, the crew of an Air France Airbus spotted a dark disc while flying over Coulommiers. The captain and co-pilot described an object that changed shape before vanishing abruptly. Air traffic control showed no other flights in the area, yet a radar picked up an unidentified track coinciding with the observation. Three years later, the witnesses filed an official report with SEPRA.
Investigators questioned the link between the visual object and the radar signal and ruled out an aircraft due to lack of correlation. In 2012, a weather balloon hypothesis was assessed, but the balloon had burst an hour before the incident. Two hypotheses remained open, both difficult to confirm. GEIPAN classified the case as D1 — unexplained, with some consistency across the testimonies.
