Two luminous spheres merge and speed away over Lille

Summary

On the night of 6 June 1997, a witness in Lille observed a stationary luminous sphere in his garden, roughly four times smaller than the moon. Minutes later, a second sphere appeared at high speed and merged with the first. Both then sped away northward. A friend of the witness, alerted by phone, also saw the phenomenon, and the gendarmerie received additional reports. Despite the multiple testimonies, no explanation was found.
