On the night of 6 June 1997, a witness in Lille observed a stationary luminous sphere in his garden, roughly four times smaller than the moon. Minutes later, a second sphere appeared at high speed and merged with the first. Both then sped away northward. A friend of the witness, alerted by phone, also saw the phenomenon, and the gendarmerie received additional reports. Despite the multiple testimonies, no explanation was found. GEIPAN classified the case as D.
