In the early hours of 4 July 1997, a sailor in the bay of Les Sables-d'Olonne saw a luminous phenomenon descend rapidly, hover for a few seconds and vanish. When he woke his companions, they all witnessed a second object — a yellow diamond shape with lights at its vertices — moving at high speed among the clouds. This second phenomenon remained visible for 10 to 15 seconds before fading. Despite the detailed descriptions, investigators found no conventional explanation for either sighting.
