In September 1997, several witnesses in Billom (Puy-de-Dôme) reported a silent, star-sized luminous object moving very slowly across the sky. A reddish halo and multi-coloured flashes were visible. The observation lasted roughly an hour and a half. Investigators concluded it was most likely a celestial body in motion, such as an asteroid or an uncommon astronomical phenomenon.
