Partial lunar eclipse mistaken for a UFO in Metz

Summary

Two couples observed a luminous phenomenon near the ground in Metz (Moselle) in September 1997. One witness managed to film it. A joint investigation by the gendarmerie and SEPRA determined it was the moon under unusual conditions: an overcast sky combined with the onset of a lunar eclipse had created an optical illusion. The case was classified as solved.
