🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In September 1997, a witness in Bouzonville (Moselle) observed a luminous object near the moon from his balcony on two occasions, at 10:00 and 10:30 p.m. He filmed it and had the impression the object moved rapidly, even circling the moon. The case was initially classified as C, but a later GEIPAN review reclassified it as A, concluding it was Jupiter, which was visible at that position in the sky that night. The apparent movement was attributed to camera instability rather than the object itself. The witness never mentioned seeing Jupiter, which supports the hypothesis of a planetary misidentification.
