Around midnight on August 10, 1998, several witnesses in northeastern France, including a train driver, sighted a triangular object with two red lights and one very bright white light. One witness, after reading press reports, suggested it might have been an ultralight that passed near his home at the same time. A low-altitude military Transall aircraft was also reported in the area. The coincidence of dates and descriptions makes it likely the phenomenon corresponded to one of these two conventional aircraft, though other explanations were not entirely ruled out.
