🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On September 12, 1998, the crew of an aircraft flying from Toulouse to Dijon observed two luminous points moving unusually above the plane. The pilots initially assumed military traffic, but the zigzagging trajectory and abrupt altitude changes did not match any known pattern. The French Air Force confirmed no military activity in the area, and radar systems detected nothing.
GEIPAN classified the case as D, indicating no satisfactory explanation was found. The complete absence of traces on detection systems and the inability to identify the observed objects left the case open. Neither perceptual errors nor uncommon natural phenomena could be confirmed as the cause.
