In December 1998, a witness in Rosheim (Bas-Rhin) described a serpentine luminous shape made up of red and white discs moving silently in a kind of loop. The observation lasted about one minute. The witness initially thought of disco lights but dismissed the idea after comparing with laser photographs. The testimony was filed nearly a month later, in January 1999, and there were no other witnesses.
After a review with modern tools, GEIPAN concluded the phenomenon was likely produced by disco lasers projected onto low clouds. However, the lack of precise data such as angles or altitudes prevented definitive confirmation.
