🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In December 1998, a family in Monetay-sur-Allier (Allier) observed a strange red luminous line in the sky, apparently composed of bright globes, that moved back and forth before vanishing. The case was initially classified as D, but GEIPAN later re-examined it with new methods. Analysis of the exact position of the phenomenon matched the Moon's location at that time, partially hidden by clouds.
The witness confirmed the observation details, including the exact location of their home. GEIPAN concluded it was the moonrise, with the reddish hue caused by atmospheric scattering and cloud cover. Verification using Stellarium software reinforced this explanation. The case was reclassified accordingly.
