At 5:30 a.m. on 25 July 1999, two on-duty gendarmes in Malville (Loire-Atlantique) observed from their vehicle a red-and-green fireball streaking across the sky, followed by a smoke trail. The event attracted additional witnesses and local press coverage. A meteorite or space-debris re-entry was considered the most likely explanation, though neither hypothesis received official confirmation.
