In March 2001, several witnesses in Douai observed a luminous point larger than a typical star over two consecutive nights. Viewed through binoculars, it displayed colorful flashes within. The phenomenon remained stationary, produced no sound, and stayed visible for hours. Investigators concluded it was most likely a particularly bright star whose atmospheric scintillation created the illusion of color changes — an effect amplified by binoculars. GEIPAN classified the case as B.
