On 7 February 2002, several independent witnesses in the Aveyron département — and others in a neighbouring département — saw an orange fireball fall rapidly, leaving a visible trail. The phenomenon lasted only one or two seconds. The convergence of multiple reports from different locations reinforced the reliability of the accounts. GEIPAN investigators concluded it was most likely an object entering the atmosphere, whether a meteorite or a piece of space debris.
