Between 22:00 and 22:30 on 5 July 2002, several witnesses in Vaucluse and Bouches-du-Rhône saw white lights moving in synchronised alignment. Descriptions varied — six to eight lights arranged in a circle, a line or a double triangle — but all agreed the lights moved together. Reported durations ranged from a few minutes to an hour.
In 2008, an investigation into similar phenomena attributed them to the Patrouille de France, the French Air Force aerobatic team. That finding allowed this earlier case to be re-evaluated and resolved with the same explanation.
