On 3 March 2004, around 16:00, several witnesses in Blainville-sur-l'Eau saw an object fall and strike the ground hard enough to be detected by the Institute of Earth Physics in Strasbourg. Helicopter military exercises were under way in the area at the time, complicating interpretation. Despite this ambiguity, GEIPAN considered a conventional explanation plausible — such as a meteorite or an incident related to the military operations — and classified the case as B.
