Summary

On 14 May 2004, an amateur astronomer observed a very bright point moving slowly toward the northeast. A second observation three hours later still left the object unidentified. No other testimonies reached the Gendarmerie, and the case was initially labelled unexplained. A later review using modern tools established that the object was the International Space Station. The witness had dismissed that possibility because he mistakenly believed satellites were not visible at the time. GEIPAN reclassified the case as PAN A, confirming the ISS as the source.
