A witness in Bar-sur-Loup photographed the village without noticing anything unusual with the naked eye. Upon reviewing the images, an unexplained mark was discovered. The gendarmerie investigated and ruled out meteorological phenomena, though they found a radar trace with three points coinciding with the time of the photograph. A fast-moving object was initially suggested, then a commercial aircraft was considered.
However, a key detail shifted the analysis: the village clock tower housed pigeons that caused problems, and several were visible on the cornice in the photo. The most likely explanation was that a pigeon crossed the field of view, with the blur caused by its wing movement. The case was classified as conventional.
