In July 2007, a motorist and his wife saw an oval, bluish-white luminous ring gliding silently across the cloudy sky as they drove between Remiremont and Dinozé. Over 35 minutes and roughly 20 kilometers, they felt the phenomenon was following their car. Despite their fear, they observed it closely, and their detailed descriptions allowed investigators to reconstruct the scene.
The investigation found that a nightclub in Epinal operated a sky-tracer laser projector that cast shapes onto the clouds on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The witness accounts matched the behavior and appearance of those projected beams. GEIPAN classified the case as A.
